The Trip to Wasilla

On August 15, 2012 locomotive 557 was transported from the Anchorage yard to the 557 Engine House (formerly Kenai Supply) in Wasilla. An Alaska Railroad crew and movers from Alaska West Express hauled the 162,500-pound locomotive (253,850 pounds including tractor-trailer) up the Parks Highway stopping only at the weigh station and for the crews to eat lunch. She avoided all, but the last two overpasses due to height restrictions. After arriving at her final destination, a highly skilled crew expertly extracted her from the flat bed via a homemade rail ramp and track mobile.
